Wildwood Whole Home Remodel
The owners love their historic neighborhood and want to stay there as long as they can. They wanted to update their home to make it livable as they age into their 70s and 80s.
One update was connecting the detached garage to the home. Previously, the garage wall was leaning close to six inches and the aging roof had allowed squirrels to enter the attic. We built a new wall so that the garage would not risk falling over and put on a new roof. We then connected the detached garage into an attached garage. We also built a bonus room over the garage and a sun room.
On the first floor, the owners wanted to open up their kitchen and expand their bathroom. In order to incorporate these changes, we had to bump the entire back of the house back ten feet to provide additional space. The kitchen remodel provides a much more open space with new appliances, cabinetry, flooring, and countertops.
On the second floor, we remodeled the master closet and bathroom. Before the remodel, both the closet and bathroom were small and dated. The newly remodeled master bath and custom-built cedar-lined closet are drastic improvements for the owners’ master suite.
The project presented several difficulties. One, in particular, was having several open spaces at a time and eventually connecting them. Another was space. Fortunately, the owners have great neighbors that were respectful and understanding, making the project much more enjoyable.
Thomas J. Pearson Inc. has worked on many older homes in historic neighborhoods. We take pride in making sure the renovations provide much needed improvements and updates while still respecting the style of the home and the style of the other homes in these older neighborhoods. We feel this project is a good example of our work in that regard.
